My Theoretical Exhibition

I was thinking about my concept for a while as I didn't want to 'organize' an exhibition like all the others are but to come up with a good idea. And I would really like to have it some time later as I think it would be really interesting! It is hard to talk about our dreams and our dreamworld and for some it is even harder for others it is easier to represent it somehow - with a color, with a drawing, with some tunes, I think it is really a topic where there would be NO identical or even similar pieces of work. It would be also fascinating to see how people translate the topic for themselves: some may try to depict something material of their ultimate dreams, some may represent what they had just dreamt the day before, some may try to show the way they imagine the other world... I would like ot have everyday people from different backgrounds, as to see the similarities and differences, the beautiful scenes but also the shocking visions which may be created would be more than interesting to see! I also thought of having events like a book fair/show and discussions with psychiatrists, visual artists and musicians.
I hope one day I can realize this idea!

The Várfok Street

We went to the Várfok Street to 'ambush' the praparations to the upcoming openings in a couple of galleries, like the Várfok Gallery where Rita had been working. I was very surprised when weI entered the first exhibition place, as I had thought that it is a huge gallery. We went to the other place also beloning to it. The employees were really helpful and we could also take part in the work - I took off the back of the 'title stcker' (i don't know the proper word for it:), it was fun! We also visited a gallery which name I've forgotten, where the Slovakian TV was featured in all of the rooms. I haven't been to a such boring exhibition like this, I really do not see any point in it. But on the whole, it was a good day!

Flat Galleries

We visited four flat galleries, which were not that interesting, but I felt very sick then and I didn't like the art pieces either so maybe that were the problems.. It was good however to hear either the owners or the employments talking a bit about each of galleries, although they were not talking about very useful information but they answered all the questions we asked and except for one of the ladies they were really nice. I personally, would not open a flat gallery but I do see their point in it! But I would not base the entire operation on regular customers even if it is more secure from some points of view.

First Friday

We were organizing a show for Oksana's paintings, drawings and computer graphics. I love her 'green series' so much!! She so talented and I was so happy to work in order to create a nice exhibition for her! The opening was okey, quite many people came - I hadn't expect this many people. And it was good to see that every picture is hanging on the wall as the day before we were struggling so much with a couple of them to have them stay there:) With Meerim we, seriously, spent like an hour with putting one of the pictures up as it just was not willing to stay there - I think the boy at the reception desk was laughing like hell at us..
It was a nice experience to take part in the preparation process of this exhibiton.

Museum of Fine Arts

I became very excited when Rita told us we were going to the Fine Arts Museum as one of the temporary exhibitions feature the Secession master, Alphonse Mucha who I really like. Nice pieces were put on display but they are quite similar to each other so they couldn't catch our eyes after the tenth piece of his art. Some of the members of his series works deeply touched me, like the Summer from the Seasons. I was sad, however, that I didn't have enough time to study a bit longer his oil paintings which brought something different into the exhibition hall and I hadn't seen them before. And to tell the truth, I couldn't stand the color the walls had been painted! That grey was so 'factory-like' and rigid..
We visited the Gustav Moreau show as well, which did not evoke any feelings in me, really nothing.... There Imlike the color of the walls but I don't think they fit to this topic! I hadn't heard much about him before but the only thing I was amazed by was the method the pictures were fixed on the walls!

Műcsarnok

Recently, I've visited the current exhibition at the Műcsarnok on my own because I had to work on the day when the class went there. I'm really sorry that I couldn't get a guided tour as the class got, I'm sure I could've learnt lots interesting information. It was organized together with a Spanish museum not only by the Műcsarnok. I liked it but it is hard to form my opinion.. I really don't see the point in the video depicting a man masturbating - what is the message??Why is it art? So, I would've liked to ask many questions.. But I'm happy that I've seen this exhibition and I really liked the huge installation filling the entire room but I missed something from that which I cannot really explain what it was .. maybe it wasn't amazing enough, or I don't know how to put down this feeling, sorry..

The Da Vinci Exhibition

We visited with the class the Vam Design Center, where the most comprehensive travelling exhibition which has ever been put together from Leonardo Da Vinci’s oeuvre is taking place. the visitors can see him as an inventor, an artist, an anatomist, a sculptor, an engineer, a musician, and an architect – says the flyer about the current show - but is it really that magnificent?
We spent one and a half hours in the miraculous world of Leonardo Da Vinci. Or at least we had suggested experiencing something like that prior to visiting the exhibition. I, personally, did not like the structure of the display as it was not impressive and striking enough. The very beginning is exciting and the way Da Vinci’s life is presented can give everybody a brief and clear chronological picture of his most important moments and periods. The following section gives place to the amazing inventions and plans of the genius including the most well-known ones, for example the ancestor of the helicopter. Lots of his elaborately prepared sketches are really built in true to life sizes; and in the next room the visitors are given the possibility of trying out quite many of the constructed machines. The descriptions, however, are not easily readable if you are not the only one standing in front of them, which is a considerable problem if the number of visitors allowed in can reach the two-hundred. The subsequent two sections, the ones I liked the best, are focusing on the most famous painting of the world, the Mona Lisa and the fresco of the Last Supper. To be honest, I had been a bit bored that it is always the Mona Lisa put in the highlight when it comes to Da Vinci - and it is not because I do not like this image. However, it was surprisingly interesting: both on life-size and - good quality - enlarged reproductions the original look of the painting is restored on the basis of a deep photographic analysis; brand-new discoveries and theories are demonstrated in connection with small details, like why cannot we see the eyebrows and eyelashes or the reason why one of the Mona Lisa’s hands looks a bit strange is that Leonardo repainted its posture and did not finish it completely. The only thing I did not like here was the lighting, which was not set properly at some of the photos, so you have to search for the spot from where you see no reflection making invisible a big part of the picture. The methods used during the entire research process can be watched in a video and, another one is played, of course, on the mysterious model’s identity. The other section dealing with the Last Supper has very similar structure, with enlarged pictures, with information e.g. about the depicted apostles and the method of creation, and with a video as well which says almost the same things written on the walls. The following part has exciting pieces, including an exhaustive video on the Vitruvius Man, but unfortunately, I could not enjoy it as much as could have done so if I were not that cold. By that section I had been ‘frozen’ as it was really cold down there and the coats are not allowed to be left on…
My overall impression about the exhibition is not negative, but I think the promotion as well as the high entrance fee suggests something more and this is why some visitors may leave disappointed. I enjoyed it, I learnt from it, but something is still missing – and it is maybe that striking amazement which the concept could evoke in people.

The Museum of Ethnography

The Museum of Ethnography was also a new place to visit for me. The building itself will not belong to my favourite ones for sure, it is nice but too impersonal and a bit overdecorated for me. Anyway, we saw two exhibitions - the permanenet and a temporary one, entitled New Acquisitions. We were divided into two groups, each visiting one of the exhibitions, paying attention to details of the way of display and then we guided each other. I liked this idea! My only little problem was that I had to explore the permanent exhibition which was not that interesting.. There were very beautiful pieces of furniture, I loved the pairs of boots, which do look like the fashionable ones today, and I liked the photos put on the walls as decoration but the whole exhibition concerning the outlook should definitely be modernised. I was very sad that we didn't have enough time to explore the permanent exhibition we just rushed through many rooms, I would've liked to spend more time there as it seemed to be very interesting for me. I hope I can go back to check everything:)

The Museum of Applied Arts

I have never been to the The Museum of Applied Arts before, so I liked the idea very much to visit it - although I hadn't expected to see an interesting exhibition..
I loved the building so much!! It is really different from the styles we've got used in Hungary; to have such a significant oriental influence is not typical I think, but it gives something else, a new experience, and this building was constructed really in a beautiful way. Usually, I don't like overdecorated buildings but as it was totally white it wasn't too much for me. We visited the permanent exhibition which was not that boring, there were some really special pieces which I liked a lot. I didn't like the shape of the way visitors are suggested to go, I just don't see the point in it. I think such exhibitions can be boring because a vase for example just cannot be that interesting if you don't know anything about its background, technique, etc. I would make it more attractive and entertaining with gathering interesting stories in connection with its creation , its artist, a story behind it, the way it got to Hungary, and so on... I'm sure ther are many interesting stories in the background!

Exhibition at the Ludwig Museum

We visited the current temporary exhibition, entitled Arctic Hysteria in the Ludwig Museum. I was very happy to go to this exhibition - I had already planned before to visit it. I have to tell, that I liked the majority of the pieces a lot! Yet, I liked the very first room where clothes, shoes and bags were created out of a kind of colored plant, they were really beautiful. What also makes me remember the exhibition was the room of the videos projected on all the four huge walls of the room, but it rather gave me an experience than touched me as a piece of art. To be honest, it would be hard to convince me that it is art.. It was also nice to watch the videos recording people singing their sorrow out of themselves - i wanted to search for some more on the internet but i've forgotten the title, unfortunately:( Rita, would you please write it to me if you remeber? thank you:>
